Janesville Promise Scholarship Fund Created To Help Local Seniors | Schools
The generosity of one couple is making college more affordable for some Rock County teens. Thanks to a $1 million gift, graduating seniors in Janesville will get money to help them attend the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. At a news conference on Tuesday, school district leaders announced the creation of the Janesville Promise Scholarship Fund. The money was donated by Janesville alumni Quint and Rishy Studer. The superintendent said this is the largest gift the district has ever received. "I'm sure some of the students applying to UW don't have the opportunity to go to school because of financial restrictions so this gives them a promise and a hope for a brighter future," said Karen Schulte, Janesville School District Superintendent. For the next six years, the fund will award $50,000 in scholarship money to students at Craig and Parker high schools. She said students looking to apply should talk to their guidance counselors.
