Businesses, orgs join equality group to host picnic | Arts & Culture
A non-profit Rock County group will host a picnic with an anti-bullying message.
The Ruby Project will host the Out in October Picnic and Resource Fair at the Rock County Courthouse Amphitheater in downtown Janesville on Oct. 20. The group said this October will mark the first "Out" event, but it hopes to make the picnic an annual affair.
Organizers said the free, family friendly event will share resources for people who are victimized or bullied due to their identification as gay, bisexual or transgendered.
The Ruby Project said businesses from across the county will offer vendor booths and resource organizations will host info booths at the Out in October event.
The group founder Kelley Blair Ostermann said the Ruby Project works to support and serve everyone, regardless of sexual identity.
"Bullying impacts every single community," Ostermann said in a news release. "Out in October is a great opportunity to learn about self-expression and acceptance of everyone in Rock County."
